Da quasi vent’anni<\/strong><\/a>, la Food and Drug Administration deve autorizzare<\/strong><\/a> il salmone transgenico AquAdvantage<\/strong><\/a>, dell’Aquabounty, che diventa grande come un adulto a soli 2 anni<\/strong><\/a>, da allevare in vasca sulla terra ferma (per ora in Panama), e non in mare.<\/p>\n

Sarebbero solo femmine sterili, ma non al 100%, \u00e8 impossibile escludere che qualche uovo scappi in natura, quando viene rinnovata l’acqua delle vasche. La cosa preoccupa “l’economia<\/strong><\/a>” canadese del salmone selvatico, gi\u00e0 mal ridotto dall’inquinamento<\/a> <\/strong>e dal\u00a0risc.<\/a> glob<\/a><\/strong>.<\/a> in corso<\/a><\/strong> (corretto un link e aggiunto un terzo, h\/t Udik).<\/p>\n

No surprise, sono Krista Oke<\/strong><\/a> et al.<\/em> a pubblicare sui Proc. of the Royal Society B. – <\/em>in open access<\/strong><\/a> – i risultati di esperimenti lunghi e complicati, finanziati da svariati enti pubblici e dall’Atlantic Salmon Federation<\/strong><\/a>.
\nUna sorpresa per\u00f2 c’\u00e8:<\/p>\n

Through experimental crosses, we demonstrate transmission of a growth hormone transgene via hybridization between a candidate for commercial aquaculture production, GM Atlantic salmon (<\/em>Salmo salar<\/em>) and closely related wild brown trout (<\/em>Salmo trutta<\/em>). Transgenic hybrids were viable and grew more rapidly than transgenic salmon<\/strong> and other non-transgenic crosses in hatchery-like conditions. In stream mesocosms designed to more closely emulate natural conditions, transgenic hybrids appeared to express competitive dominance and suppressed the growth of transgenic and non-transgenic (wildtype) salmon by 82<\/strong> and 54 per cent<\/strong>, respectively.<\/em>
