Ai ricercatori \u00e8 venuta la curiosit\u00e0 \u00a0&#8211; per dirla con il <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/newsandeventspggrp\/imperialcollege\/newssummary\/news_22-7-2013-11-19-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">com. stampa<\/a> &#8211; di sapere com&#8217;era il livello del mare.<\/p>\n<p>Hanno estratto una carota di sedimenti fangosi risalenti a 5,3-3,2 milioni di anni fa a tre chilometri sotto il livello del mare, al largo della <a href=\"http:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jules_Dumont_d'Urville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Terre d&#8217;Ad\u00e9lie<\/a> di cui \u00e8 presidente Fran\u00e7ois Hollande.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTccMIhvJsa6l5TIY6v5mm81JdPAwwvlI4UTlVpRhxqFaJRzbk_\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Kila\u00e9lu, \u00e7ui l\u00e0?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I sedimenti provengono dall&#8217;erosione delle rocce sotto la calotta sud-est attuale, quindi quest&#8217;ultima deve essere arretrata pi\u00f9 di quanto si credeva.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cScientists previously considered the East Antarctic ice sheet to be more stable than the much smaller ice sheets in West Antarctica and Greenland, even though very few studies of East Antarctic ice sheet have been carried out. Da ulteriori analisi dei sedimenti, si avr\u00e0 un&#8217;idea, decina di millenni pi\u00f9 decina meno. \u00a0Ci vogliono serie lunghe per distinguere il tasso tendenziale dalla variabilit\u00e0 naturale su scala utile.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ngeo\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/ngeo1874.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Wouters<\/strong><\/a> et al. scrivevano \u00a0la settimana scorsa:<br \/>\n<em>the detection threshold of mass loss acceleration depends on record length: to detect an acceleration at an accuracy within \u00b110Gt\/yr2, a period of 10 years or more of observations is required for Antarctica and about 20 years for Greenland. E magari pregano perch\u00e9 a Cryosat II gli venga un accidente, prima che scopra alluvioni <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Observing_the_Earth\/CryoSat\/CryoSat_maps_largest-ever_flood_beneath_Antarctica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>sotto la calotta<\/strong><\/a> anche a Est.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Dall&#8217;altro lato, inizia il periodo dei cicloni &#8220;macina-banchisa&#8221; e si riapre il dibattito se dare loro un nome, come a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wmo.int\/pages\/prog\/www\/tcp\/Storm-naming.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>quelli tropicali<\/strong><\/a>, o se son figli d&#8217;un dio minore e basta un GAC 2012 un PAC 2013 . <a href=\"http:\/\/neven1.typepad.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/the-naming-of-arctic-cyclones.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Neven<\/strong><\/a> ha un&#8217;idea:<\/p>\n<p><em>If indeed we do see an increase in summer cyclone activity in the Arctic, it will be useful in the future to identify exactly which cyclone we are referring to by name and year. One suggestion, which I personally find excellent is to use the Inuit language in naming the storms.
