Apriti cielo, una rissa cos\u00ec non si vedeva dai tempi in cui il Comitato <a href=\"https:\/\/ocasapiens-dweb.blogautore.repubblica.it\/2010\/04\/08\/resistere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ribattezzava<\/strong><\/a> <em>Drosophila funebris<\/em> l&#8217;amata <em>melanogaster<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>(In letteratura continua a essere chiamata <em>melanogaster<\/em>, come sanno le socie e i soci del fan club, ma il Codice aggiornato che uscir\u00e0 nel 2018 potrebbe riservare amare sorprese&#8230; Be prepared.)<\/p>\n<p>Alain Dubois e una schiera di <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">tardi<\/span> retrogradi internazionale a maggioranza francese spara su <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biotaxa.org\/Zootaxa\/article\/view\/zootaxa.3735.1.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zootaxa<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>una bordata di ben 94 pagine sulle &#8220;minuzie protocollari&#8221;, dice un<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/biotaxa.org\/Zootaxa\/article\/view\/zootaxa.3735.1.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">editoriale<\/a><\/strong> di <em>Nature<\/em>. I comitati scientifici delle &#8220;nuove&#8221; riviste non sarebbero in grado di valutare, stando al regolamento, la non disponibilit\u00e0 su carta degli articoli il che li renderebbe automaticamente \u00a0&#8220;unavailable&#8221;, e pertanto non validi.<\/p>\n<p>Una volta esposti i fatti, l&#8217;editoriale diventa un filino critico:<\/p>\n<p><em>That said, there might be more than a disinterested concern for scientific integrity at work here. A typical reader of the Zootaxa paper (not that there are typical readers of a 94-page work on the minutiae of nomenclature protocol) might reasonably conclude that the authors have axes to grind. Exhibits A\u2013E: the high degree of autocitation in the Zootaxa paper; the admission that some of the authors were against the ICZN amendments; that they clearly feel that their opinions regarding the amendments have been disregarded; the ad hominem attacks on \u2018wealthy\u2019 publishers as opposed to straitened natural-history societies; and the use of emotive and occasionally intemperate language that one does not associate with the usually dry and legalistic tone of debate on this subject. (The online publisher BioMed Central, based in London, gets a particular pasting, to which it has responded.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.biomedcentral.com\/bmcblog\/2013\/11\/15\/the-devil-may-be-in-the-detail-but-the-longview-is-also-worth-a-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Risposta pepata<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<em>One of many recommendations made in the diatribe is that journals should routinely have on their review boards those expert in the business of nomenclature \u2014 in other words, a cadre of people who are, unlike ordinary mortals, qualified to interpret the mystic strictures of the code. A typical reader is again entitled to ask whom, apart from themselves, the authors think might be suitable candidates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Le 94 pagine sono in open access, i tassonomofili vedano loro se i sospetti sono giustificati.<\/p>\n<p>Per far buona misura, aggiungo che il Cinz &#8211; \u00a0inteso come Comitato di <a href=\"http:\/\/iczn.org\/content\/zoobank-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>volontari<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; era rimasto al verde, altro che risme di carta e cartucce per stampare 15.000 articoli con nuove specie ogni anno, e la <a href=\"http:\/\/zoobank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Zoobank<\/strong><\/a> rischiava di chiudere. Un finanziamento di $80.000\/anno per fino al 2016 dell&#8217;universit\u00e0 di Singapore l&#8217;ha appena salvata dalla bancarotta e la tassonomia dal caos.<\/p>\n<p>Immagine:\u00a0<em>Panthera blytheae <\/em>vissuta 6 milioni di anni fa &#8211;\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org\/content\/281\/1774\/20132686.full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fonte gratis<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> e attuale leopardo delle nevi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<p><strong>O&#8217;s digest<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/climate-negotiations-soldier-on-1.14199\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>editoriale<\/strong><\/a> non del tutto depresso sulle trattative della COP 19 a Varsavia<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/doifinder\/10.1038\/503312a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>editoriale<\/strong><\/a> entusiasta su <em>Gravity<\/em>, e <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/doifinder\/10.1038\/503313a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>recensione<\/strong><\/a> idem<br \/>\n&#8211; la <em>Drosophila melanogaster laboratorii<\/em> va tenuta a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nmeth\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nmeth.2731.html#auth-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>dieta olidica<\/strong><\/a> di amminoacidi, vitamine e zuccheri, stando al gruppo coordinato da Linda Partridge all&#8217;Institute for Healthy Ageing dell&#8217;UCL (paper uscito su<em> Nature Methods<\/em>). Cos\u00ec vivono pi\u00f9 a lungo, per\u00f2 crescono pi\u00f9 lentamente e si riproducono di meno,<br \/>\n&#8211; i tagli del &#8220;sequester&#8221; rischiano di interrompere le misure della CO2 atmosferica e la curva di Keeling, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/budget-crunch-hits-keeling-s-curves-1.14206\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>dice<\/strong><\/a> Keeling Jr<br \/>\n&#8211; in un paper, Peter Raymond et al.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v503\/n7476\/full\/nature12760.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ricalcolano<\/strong><\/a> il contributo al ciclo del carbonio (gas transfer) della CO2 &#8220;evasa&#8221; dai fiumi e dai laghi. Quella dei fiumi sarebbe quasi 6 volte quella emessa dai laghi (1,8 petagrammi rispetto a 0,32) con picchi in Amazzonia e nel sud-est asiatico, regioni per le quali per\u00f2 i dati sono pochi;<br \/>\n&#8211; Jonathan Overpeck <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v503\/n7476\/full\/503350a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>recensisce<\/strong><\/a> una ricostruzione dendrocronologica delle &#8220;siccit\u00e0 nel Nord America&#8221; &#8211; gli Stati Uniti, in realt\u00e0 &#8211; durante l&#8217;ultimo millennio, pubblicato da <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.ametsoc.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1175\/JCLI-D-13-00100.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benjamin Cook et al.<\/a> sul <em>Journal of Climate <\/em>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ldeo.columbia.edu\/res\/div\/ocp\/drought\/PDFS\/CookEtAl2013PanContin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>bozza gratis<\/strong><\/a> e\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ldeo.columbia.edu\/res\/div\/ocp\/drought\/publications.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>papers precedenti<\/strong><\/a>). Una siccit\u00e0 su scala continentale come quella dell&#8217;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/billions\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>anno scorso<\/strong><\/a> non \u00e8 eccezionale, si ripresenta nel 12% del millennio. Durante il periodo caldo medievale, poteva durare per decenni. Scrive Overbeck:<\/p>\n<p><em>The complexity of these megadroughts still defies complete explanation and yet it implies that unusually persistent anomalies of sea surface temperature can combine with amplifying changes in vegetation and soil to drive droughts that \u2014 if they happened today \u2014 would outstrip many of our institutional capacities to deal with such aridity.
