Parecchi ricercatori mi dicono di non preoccuparmi, gli articoli con dati falsi finiscono nel dimenticatoio. Smith non \u00e8 d’accordo. N\u00e9 le riviste n\u00e9 le universit\u00e0 n\u00e9 gli enti di ricerca hanno le competenze necessarie per indagare, le ritrattazioni sono rare, le sanzioni – restituire un grant per esempio – rarissime.<\/p>\n

What is also highly unsatisfactory is how hundreds of studies (and probably many more) that are fraudulent remain in the scientific literature without any signal that they are inventions. I\u2019ve been involved closely with two fraudulent researchers who between them have generated more than a hundred studies that are not retracted. Science is failing in its duty to the public.<\/p>\n

In USA, le sanzioni potrebbero aggravarsi. Un congressista repubblicano<\/a> si sta arrabbiando con le agenzie governative che hanno buttato via 15 milioni di dollari in ricerche sull’Aids, false per ammissione del loro responsabile, e dopo ulteriori milioni spesi per un’indagine, lo hanno “punito” con 3 anni di sospensione di ulteriori finanziamenti.<\/p>\n
