Estratto:<\/p>\n<p>C<em>huck Palahniuk, the US author of\u00a0<\/em>Fight Club<em>, noted that \u201cwe\u2019ll be remembered more for what we destroy than what we create\u201d. For anyone who has been following the saga of ancient Pompeii over the past few years, that observation has the bite of reality. Report after report has appeared in the press detailing the collapse of this wall, the closure of that house or, in one extreme case in 2010, the destruction of a whole building.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.repubblica.it\/images\/2010\/10\/03\/102530232-416156ab-4159-40a7-baf8-da48f060c6a2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nMa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/sister-city-inspires-pompeii-rescue-1.14929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Declan Butler<\/a> ricorda che il restauro di <a href=\"http:\/\/www.repubblica.it\/cronaca\/2010\/07\/12\/foto\/ercolano_abbandonata-5527037\/1\/#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ercolano<\/a> \u00e8 stato un successo:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>The Herculaneum Conservation Project was launched in 2001, when Herculaneum was in a dire state, as a public\u2013private venture between the philanthropic Packard Humanities Institute of Los Altos, California, the British School at Rome and the superintendency. In just over a decade, and having spent \u20ac20 million in total, it has helped to reverse the decay and put the town on a sustainable conservation footing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Anche per Pompei, gli aiuti vengono dall&#8217;estero:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>The authorities are responding, however.
