\u00a0After consolidating leading international datasets, WMO noted that the difference in temperature between the warmest years is only a few hundredths of a degree \u2013 less than the margin of uncertainty.<\/em><\/p>\n

Average global air temperatures over land and sea surface in 2014 were 0.57 \u00b0C (1.03\u00b0F) above the long-term average of 14.00\u00b0C (57.2 \u00b0F) for the 1961-1990 reference period. By comparison, temperatures were 0.55 \u00b0C (1.00\u00b0F) above average in 2010 and 0.54\u00b0C (0.98\u00b0F) above average in 2005,\u00a0 according to WMO calculations. The estimated margin of uncertainty was 0.10\u00b0C (0.18\u00b0F). <\/em><\/p>\n

Come tutti, i meteorologi fanno notare che nel 2014 ha fatto un caldo da Ni\u00f1o 2010, ma in assenza di Ni\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

Anche\u00a0Kevin Cowtan e Robert Way<\/a> hanno concluso la propria analisi delle temperature 2014. Scrive Cowtan da Skeptical Science<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

we show 2014 as the second hottest on record. And not by a close margin – the temperature anomaly for 2014 was 0.61\u00b0C, as compared to 0.63\u00b0C for 2010. Given that our work is motivated by the desire to understand why the different versions of the temperature record differ, the difference is interesting.<\/em><\/p>\n

La tendenza non cambia, ma a partire dal 2005 c’\u00e8 una divergenza fra le analisi che non pu\u00f2 essere dovuta alle equazioni usate per “riempire i buchi” dove mancano le registrazioni, in Africa e soprattutto in Antartide dov’\u00e8 di 0,03 \u00b0C. In compenso, i buchi spiegano bene le divergenze per l’Artico. Conclusione:<\/p>\n

So was 2014 the hottest on record? We don’t know yet, but we know one of the places where we need to look for the answer.<\/em><\/p>\n
