In un saggio <\/a><\/strong>sul Guardian<\/em>, il politologo David Runciman interviene anche lui sulla “politicizzazione” delle scienze del clima. Riassume le attivit\u00e0 dei “mercanti di dubbio” da 25 anni a questa parte e passa ai consigli pratici.<\/p>\n

Recent research by a group of psychologists<\/a>\u00a0shows why this is such a problem: we dislike hypocrites because we hate they way they seem to be signalling their superior virtue. […] Most people respond with relative equanimity to the lie. But they loathe the hypocrisy, because the hypocrite seems to be patronising them.<\/p>\n

We live in an age when mistrust of politics has spilled over into mistrust of expertise, and vice versa. To respond with ever-greater certainty in the name of science is a big mistake. Expertise doesn\u2019t just need humility. It also needs to reclaim the idea of scepticism from the people who have abused it. Experts need to find a way of expressing uncertainty without feeling it undermines their expertise. Voicing doubt has been allowed to become a synonym for admitting you were wrong. The way out is to stop insisting that you were right in the first place.<\/p>\n

But by insisting on its merits for the purposes of politics, its champions have exposed it to ridicule. Political arguments for climate science \u2013 indeed, for any science \u2013 in the age of Trump should not keep saying that the populists are lying about the consensus. They should say that they are hypocrites about the doubt: they do not practise what they preach because they think they know the answers already. Climate change deniers argue they are only trying to discover the truth. We should all be sceptical about that.<\/p>\n

In due sondaggi (via Mechanical Turk) di elettori democratici e repubblicani sulle cause del riscaldamento globale e rimedi, gli argomenti che ne proponevano una spiegazione meccanica e rimedi economicamente vantaggiosi, convincevano i repubblicani ad abbandonare lo “scetticismo” e riduceva la differenza con i democratici. L’effetto \u00e8 piccolo, ma lo psicologo \u00e8 ottimista:<\/p>\n

E avendo nascosto\u00a0accuratamente<\/a><\/strong> tali effetti alla comunit\u00e0 scientifica, chiss\u00e0 come mai.<\/p>\n

Nella realt\u00e0, il dott. Sauro prescriveva\u00a0verdure e vitamine al posto della chemioterapia. Ora fa come gli omeopati e sostiene che le suggeriva come cure “complementari” o palliative. La commissione dell\u2019Albo dei medici di Verona non ci ha creduto<\/p>\n

ha deciso una sospensione di sei mesi\u00a0<\/strong>dall\u2019attivit\u00e0 professionale…\u00a0\u00a0ritenendo che non potesse non sapere che altri, esplorando il suo profilo Facebook e il gruppo chiuso denominato \u00abChemioterapia naturale\u00bb, avrebbero potuto diffondere in rete informazioni ambigue e non supportate da prove scientifiche in materia di cura dei tumori con l\u2019utilizzo della vitamina D.<\/p>\n

Ci sono migliaia di\u00a0ricerche<\/a>\u00a0e di esperimenti clinici su vitamina D e tumori (rassegne<\/a><\/strong>), e nessuna dimostra che li curi.<\/p>\n
