The call to increase the number of women (and female lab animals) in research is more than a demand for equality. It is essential to find treatments that will work effectively and safely in the entire population. The timing of the anniversary is disputed. After all, this journal published its own 50th anniversary commemoration of plate tectonics 4 years ago (Nature\u00a0<\/i>501,\u00a0<\/b>27\u201329; 2013<\/a>). Columbia University\u2019s Lamont\u2013Doherty Earth Observatory in New York celebrated last May. Confused? Blame the rolling nature of scientific discovery.
